Nuffield Health used to run a dedicated NHS code, and plenty of staff still remember the 40% deal from a few years back. That code has gone. The good news is that Nuffield’s current joining offers bring the price down by a similar amount to what most emergency service discounts manage, and you don’t need any extra card or verification to get them. Any live offers we’re tracking are in the box at the top of this page.

What is Nuffield Health?

Nuffield Health is a healthcare charity. Most people know it for its private hospitals, but it also runs more than 100 fitness and wellbeing clubs across England, Scotland and Wales. These aren’t budget gyms. Almost every site has a swimming pool, and a sauna and steam room come as standard, along with a full class timetable that covers everything from BODYPUMP and spin to yoga and aqua sessions.

That matters if you work in the NHS. After a twelve-hour shift on a ward, a swim and twenty minutes in the steam room can do more for you than another session on the treadmill. Clubs also have physiotherapists on site, which is handy if years of lifting and turning patients have left your back complaining.

Is There an NHS Discount at Nuffield Health?

Not a specific one any more. The old NHS40 and NHS30 codes were introduced as a thank you after the pandemic and have since been withdrawn. If you type nuffieldhealth.com/nhs into your browser now, it takes you to a general emergency services page offering 20% off, and that 20% is tied to a third-party discount card rather than NHS ID.

Here’s the bit worth knowing. Through October 2026, Nuffield is running 20% off anytime memberships for everyone, on both the 12-month and 1-month rolling contracts, at selected clubs. That’s the same 20% the emergency services rate gives you. So for now, the public offer gets you to the same price without any extra hoops, and you can’t stack the two together anyway.

Promotions change every few weeks at Nuffield, so check the deal box above before you sign up.

How Much Can NHS Staff Save?

Prices are set club by club, so there’s no single national rate. To give you a feel for it, we looked at the Chesterfield club in October 2026. A 12-month anytime membership there normally costs £64 a month. With the current offer it drops to £51, which works out at £156 saved over the year. The 1-month rolling option falls from £79 to £63.

London clubs cost more, and some regional sites like Sheffield start a bit lower. Whichever club you pick, a 20% reduction on a mid-range membership usually puts somewhere between £120 and £200 back in your pocket over twelve months.

There’s also a joining fee to budget for. It runs from around £19 to £39 depending on the club and isn’t covered by the discount.

How to Claim the Discount

  1. Click through from the offer box at the top of this page to go to Nuffield’s gym finder.
  2. Search by postcode or town and open your nearest club’s page.
  3. Scroll to the membership plans. Any current offer is applied to the price shown, so you’ll see the old and new rates side by side.
  4. Choose between anytime and off-peak, then 12-month or 1-month rolling.
  5. Complete the online sign-up and pay the joining fee. Bring photo ID on your first visit.

Picking the Right Membership Around a Rota

Off-peak memberships look cheaper on paper, but think about your shifts before you commit. Off-peak access is limited to weekday daytime hours plus weekends, so if you’re on lates or a mix of days and nights, you could end up locked out exactly when you’re free. Off-peak plans also tend to be left out of the headline promotions, so at some clubs the discounted anytime rate actually comes in cheaper.

The 12-month contract gives you the lowest monthly price, though it’s a real commitment. If you’re on a fixed-term contract, about to rotate to a different trust, or not sure you’ll stick with it through the winter, the 1-month rolling option costs a bit more but lets you leave with a month’s notice. One more thing for anyone who moves between sites: Nuffield offers multi-club access, so you’re not tied to the gym nearest your house.

If a pool and spa aren’t high on your list and you mainly want weights and cardio, budget chains are worth a look. The Gym Group NHS discount gives staff 25% off with an NHS badge, and the PureGym NHS discount waives the joining fee, so either one can come in at well under half the price of a Nuffield membership.

Is It Worth It?

For what you get, Nuffield sits in the middle of the market. It costs more than a budget gym but less than most premium clubs, and the pool, sauna and steam room are included rather than charged as extras. Classes are unlimited, and members get 20% off physiotherapy and health assessments at Nuffield, which can add up if you’re carrying an injury.

Where it falls down is consistency. Facilities vary from club to club, a few older sites feel dated next to newer builds, and prices can jump at your annual review. If you mostly want a premium club with tennis courts and outdoor pools, compare it against the David Lloyd NHS discount before deciding, as that’s the closest like-for-like rival.

Tips to Keep Costs Down

  • Grab the free 3-day guest pass before you join, and go at the times you’d actually train to see how busy it gets.
  • Sign up near the end of a month when there’s a free-month offer running, so the free period covers more of your first billing cycle.
  • Ask the club about joint membership if you live with a partner who also wants to join. It’s handled in person rather than online.
  • Add children from around £6 each a month rather than paying for separate swimming sessions.
  • Book your free Personal Best appointment early, which includes health checks and a tailored plan, so you get value from the membership from week one.
  • Check your trust’s staff benefits portal. Some NHS employers have corporate rates with Nuffield that can beat the public price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Nuffield Health still offer 40% off for NHS staff?

No. The NHS40 and later NHS30 codes have been withdrawn. Nuffield now points NHS and emergency service workers to a general 20% offer that needs a separate discount card. During October 2026, a public 20% discount on anytime memberships brings you to the same price without one.

How much does a Nuffield Health gym membership cost?

It depends on the club. As a guide, the Chesterfield club charges £64 a month for a 12-month anytime membership before any discount, while Nottingham starts from £75. London sites are higher. Joining fees range from about £19 to £39.

Can I try a Nuffield gym before I join?

Yes. Nuffield offers a free 3-day guest pass that you can download from its website, which gives you access to the gym, pool and classes at the club you choose.

Can I use more than one Nuffield club?

Multi-club access is available, so you can train at other Nuffield sites when you’re working away or visiting family. Check the details with your home club, as access arrangements vary.

Do Nuffield members get money off physio?

Members get 20% off physiotherapy and 20% off health assessments at Nuffield Health. If you see a physio regularly, that saving can cover a decent chunk of the membership cost.

Can I combine the joining offer with other discounts?

No. Nuffield’s promotions can’t be used alongside any other offer, so pick whichever gives you the lowest price at your club.
