O2 Recycle is a device trade-in service that pays cash for old smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and other tech. The service is open to everyone, and an O2 contract is not required.
Current trade-in values are listed on the O2 Recycle website. Any NHS-specific deals or promotions are shown in the offer section above.
O2 Recycle trade-in and NHS staff
O2 Recycle does not offer a specific NHS discount on trade-in valuations. The service is open to all customers at the same pricing.
NHS staff looking for an O2 mobile discount should visit the O2 NHS discount page, which covers the O2 Open scheme offering up to 25% off airtime plans for verified NHS staff.
What devices O2 Recycle accepts
O2 Recycle accepts smartphones, tablets, Apple AirPods and wearable devices including smartwatches. Devices can be in working or non-working condition, though the trade-in value varies significantly depending on the make, model, storage capacity and physical condition.
A quote is generated by entering the device details on the O2 Recycle website before committing to the trade-in.
How O2 Recycle works
To trade in a device, the make and model are searched on the O2 Recycle website and the condition questions answered to receive a valuation. If the price is acceptable, the order is completed online and O2 Recycle provides a free prepaid postage label to send the device.
Once the device is received and inspected, payment is made by bank transfer, cheque or as a credit to an O2 bill. If the device condition does not match the description given at the time of the quote, O2 Recycle may revise the valuation before paying out.
O2 Recycle payment options
Payment is made directly into a bank account, by cheque, or as a credit against an O2 monthly bill for existing O2 customers.
Payments are typically processed within a few working days of the device being received and inspected, though timescales can vary. Current payment timescales are listed in the O2 Recycle terms and conditions on the O2 website.
O2 Recycle and data security
Before sending a device, any data should be backed up and a factory reset performed to wipe personal information. Removing the SIM card and any memory card before posting is also recommended.
O2 Recycle carries out data wiping on devices as part of its process, but removing personal data before sending is advisable regardless. Devices that are returned are repaired, refurbished and resold or recycled, with O2 operating a zero landfill policy on traded-in devices.
O2 Like New refurbished phones
Alongside the trade-in service, O2 sells refurbished phones through its Like New range. These are devices that have been returned, inspected and restored to a high standard, coming with at least 80% battery health, passing 40 quality checks and including a warranty.
For NHS staff looking to reduce the cost of a new phone, buying refurbished through the Like New range and trading in an old device through O2 Recycle can be combined to lower the overall outlay. For mobile contract deals, the O2 NHS discount page covers the O2 Open scheme, and further deals are on the Mobile Phones discounts page.
