Stansted is one of the UK’s busiest airports, handling around 28 million passengers a year. If you’re an NHS worker flying from Stansted, here’s what you need to know about getting the best deal on parking.

Does Stansted Airport offer an NHS discount on parking?

There’s no official NHS discount run directly by Stansted Airport itself. However, NHS staff can get discounts through third-party parking providers that operate at or near Stansted. The two most reliable options are APH airport parking and Holiday Extras, both of which offer NHS and Blue Light Card discounts and cover Stansted among their listed airports.

APH offer 15% off their own branded car parks, while Holiday Extras can offer up to 30% off depending on how far in advance you book. Worth comparing both before you commit.

What parking options are available at Stansted?

Stansted has a fairly straightforward setup compared to some of the larger airports. The main options are:

  • Short stay — on-site, right outside the terminal entrance. The easiest option on the day but you will pay a premium for the convenience. Works out fine for very short trips where the extra cost is less of an issue.
  • Long stay — further out with a shuttle bus to the terminal, typically a 10-minute ride. The most popular choice for holidays given the price difference over a few days.
  • Meet and greet — pull up at the terminal, hand your keys to a driver and they take the car away to be parked. A premium service, but useful if you are travelling with a lot of luggage or need a smooth start to the trip.
  • Off-airport car parks — smaller independent operators near Stansted. Pricing varies but they can undercut the official car parks, particularly for longer stays booked well ahead.

How to get the best price on Stansted parking

The earlier you book, the less you pay. Stansted parking operates on dynamic pricing, meaning rates increase as availability shrinks and the travel date gets closer. Locking in your space at the same time as booking your flights will almost always give you a better rate than coming back to sort parking later.

Is it worth paying for meet and greet at Stansted?

Depends on your situation. If you’re travelling solo with hand luggage only, the long stay shuttle is perfectly fine and will save you a fair bit. If you’re travelling with kids, lots of bags, or just want to minimise stress on the day, meet and greet is genuinely useful. You pull up, hand over the keys and you’re done. The price gap between long stay and meet and greet has narrowed a bit in recent years, so it’s worth checking both when you’re comparing.

Other Stansted travel tips for NHS staff

Stansted is a single-terminal airport which makes it easier to navigate than Heathrow or Gatwick. Security queues can get long during peak times, so if you’re tight on time the VIP Fast Track pass (bookable through Holiday Extras from around £3 per person) can be worth it. Check-in and bag drop also gets busy early morning, so factor that in if you’re on a 6am flight.
